Abstract:Mungbean yellow mosaic virus caused 75.8%, 51.8% and 15.2% reduction in yield of the soyabean cv. Bragg when infected at the pre-bloom, bloom and post-bloom stages of growth, respectively. There was a gradual increase in the normal grain yield corresponding to the increase in age at infection. Factors such as decrease in the number of pods, seeds/pod and a slight decrease of 100 seed wt. were primarily responsible for yield loss. This varied from 15.8% to 72.9% in 8 different cultivars naturally infected at the pre-bloom stage, PK 71-21 (Alankar) being least affected. The virus caused 60.9% reduction in the number of nodules and 50.5% reduction in dry wt. of nodules in Bragg plants infected at the pre-bloom stage. The number of small sized nodules was greatly reduced in diseased plants.
