Abstract: | To determine the severity and percent disease index of the purple seed stain disease (Cercospora kikuchii) in soyabeans (Glycine max), 100 seed samples were collected from 10 random lots in the Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Assam states in India [date not given]. The disease was prevalent (at different magnitudes) in all the 6 northeastern states, in different altitudes and agroclimates. In Meghalaya, only 2 cultivars (Bragg and Ankur) out of 12 were rated as resistant and moderately resistant, respectively. Bragg and Ankur had 12.7 and 9.3% disease incidence, and 4.40 and 3.42% severity, respectively. All 10 Mizoram-collected cultivars were rated as susceptible to highly susceptible, having 31.4-72.0% incidence and 15.72-46.36% severity. All Manipur and Assam samples were categorized as moderately resistant due to their 2.0-21.71% incidence and 0.66-9.2% disease severity. Arunachal Pradesh- and Nagaland-collected samples had low disease severity (1.22-3.42 and 0.05-1.44%, respectively) and incidence (3.50-9.30 and 0.25-4.60%, respectively), except for PK 416 (from Arunachal Pradesh), which was moderately susceptible (30.2% incidence and 17.26% severity). |
