Abstract: | When 22 varieties were compared on soil supporting soya bean - maize rotation and supporting soya beans continuously, 17 varieties in maturity groups I, II and III had their mean yield significantly reduced by 16.5, 21.3 and 14.8%, respectively, under conditions of continuous cropping. The degree of infection by S. glycines was closely associated with yield loss and defoliation during pod development and seed filling under continuous cropping, the mean disease severity ratings increasing by 173, 167 and 177% and defoliation by 5, 121 and 150% in the same respective maturity groups, compared with severity ratings and defoliation under rotation. |
