Abstract: | Instar duration, egg incubation period, fertility, and oviposition behavior of Spissistilus festinus (Say) were determined during greenhouse and laboratory rearing. Field studies showed that three generations occurred annually in Louisiana. Spring host plants included clover and vetch; two generations were subsequently completed on soybean. Individuals of the last generation exhibited hypertrophied fat bodies. Females were unmated, with atrophied ovaries. These physiological traits, characteristic of reproductive diapause, were also induced in the laboratory by manipulating temperature and photoperiod. |
