Abstract: | Laboratory studies were carried out in the USA on the preference of 3rd-instar larvae of 5 species of Noctuidae for 4 feeding-stimulant adjuvants on soyabean leaf discs. The species were Trichoplusia ni, Pseudoplusia includens, Anticarsia gemmatalis, Heliothis virescens and Spodoptera frugiperda, and the adjuvants were aqueous suspensions of Coax, Gustol, Nu-Bait and Triton X-100. Feeding by T. ni, H. virescens and S. frugiperda, which often feed on cotton and do not eat soyabean foliage primarily, was significantly greater on discs dipped in Coax, but feeding by P. includens and A. gemmatalis, which are primarily foliage feeders of soyabean, was not affected by the adjuvants. |
