Abstract: | Crosses were made involving Hawkeye, which has three leaflets per leaf, the mutant T255, which has seven leaflets, and the strain T143, with five leaflets. The alíele Lf2 for trifoliolate leaves was dominant to lf2 for seven leaflets in the cross Hawkeye × T255 but was only partially dominant in other crosses. The five-leaflet character in T143 was controlled by the partially dominant gene Lf1. The genes Lf1 and Lf2 were independent. The Lf2 locus when heterozygous conditioned a greater leaflet number in association with the Lf1 alíele than did homo-zygous Lf2Lf2. Individuals of the genotype Lf1Lf1f2lf2 with up to 15 leaflets per leaf were observed. |
